Can I change tires on my truck?

I have a 1995 Nissan Pickup, and the tires that are on it right now are 195/75R14. I want to purchase some better looking rims for it, and I've got my eye on a specific set, but they require 205/40HR17 tires. Will I be able to even fit those tires on my truck, and if they do, how much of an impact can I expect on clearance and gas mileage? And would it be a good idea to get the speedometer re-calibrated?Can I change tires on my truck?go with 205\50R17 and you won't have to do anythingCan I change tires on my truck?go to the %26quot;tirerack.com%26quot; site........they have pictures, charts, and all kinds of cool stuff...........you'll get lost for hours. Can I change tires on my truck?I have some news you're not going to believe. A 205/40/17 tire has a much *smaller circumference than a 195/75/14. Want proof? Go to tirerack.com and look up any tire of these two sizes then click on the spec. page. Follow over the column under RPM ( Revolutions Per Mile) You will see that the seemingly larger 17 inch tire actually rolls 875 revolutions per mile. The smaller diameter 14 inch tire rolls 813 revolutions per mile.

Fish around on this site and pick a larger 17 inch tire or one with a larger aspect ratio to wind up with somewhere around 813 revolutions per mile. then your speedometer will not need re-calibration.

  • I want to change the tire size of my 99 Grand Am SE?

Currently it has factory stock wheels and tires in size 215/60/15 and I wanted to go to something with a wider contact patch because it just doesn't have enough ultimate grip for my driving style. Just wondered if I could go to something like 225/55/15 or 225/60/15 without messing up the speedo or tire rubs or not fitting the rim. I have a Grand Am GT that has 225/50/16 and it has sufficient grip. I have a gps to plot how much speed is off if I have to. Thanks for any info.I want to change the tire size of my 99 Grand Am SE?P225/50R16 91V is the standard tire for GT models, but that car uses a 16x6.5J wheel where your car has 15x6J wheels. Clearly you need new wheels to go to a +1 size like that.

Because your wheels are only 6 inches wide it really does limit your choices on upgrading to a different 15 inch tire size while still maintaining good roadholding and response. It is too narrow a rim to really go wider. And if you are going to have to buy new rims, why not just get 16's anyway?

Have you considered just getting a better tire in the OE size? There is a big difference between different tires within the same size in terms of how they grip the road. For example you may have some low-budget, generic S-speed rated passenger all-season P215/60R15 93S tire on there now. You could see a remarkable improvement in going to a high quality H-rated (P215/60R15 93H or 215/60R15 94H) Performance All-season tire that would provide improved grip and steering response while sticking with the factory size.

The Bridgestone Potenza 960AS Pole Position would be a tire that I think could provide you with considerable handling improvements while still retaining excellent all-season capability. For a little bit less money the Firestone Firehawk GT or Bridgestone Potenza G009 would also be an excellent option. Or the Yokohama H4s. Any of those will provide more than enough grip for safe and sane street use and I recommend them from personal experience in the order they are listed.

    PS

I should add that shocks and struts contribute a great deal to the handling qualities of a vehicle and on a 99' there is a better than even chance you still have OE shocks and struts that are well past their prime. 50k miles is when they should be replaced according to industry guidelines.

KYB produce their AGX adjustable high-performance shocks and struts for this vehicle and these would certainly be worthwhile for getting the most out of those tires. The best tires in the world won't help you if the rest of the suspension isn't pulling its fair share of the load. Proper wheel alignment is also critically important. I know I can tell the difference in how my car handles if the front toe is even 0.10 degrees off where I like it.

How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?

I have a 1989 Buick Lesabre, and I got a flat tire. The hub cap seems to be PART of the tire, so I am not sure how to change the tire since it is stuck on there and I can't get to the screws to change it...

    please help?

    Thanks

NikoleHow to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?Im not sure, but sometimes GM put a removable decorative center cap over the center of the wheel that you may need to remove. Try this; Look at the center of the wheel, do you see a round cover? Perhaps with the design of a 3 stacked shields? (That was a buick symbol back in the day)If so, look to see if you can get a flat head screw drive behind it to pry it off. If so, once exposed, you should see a fastener (bolt or screw) that requires a special tool to get it off. Chances are the tool is long gone due to the age of the car. If you were to have it, it would be located in a small envelope in the glove compartment or attached to the lug wrench. If not, you generally can use a pair of needle nose pliers to fabricate a sort of make shift tool to get the cover off with. Once off, you should see the exposed lug nuts and you should be good to go.How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?there is a cap in the center of the hubcap pop it off and then you will see a bolt in the middle that actually bolts the hubcap to the rim but usually it takes a key that should be in your lugset in your trunk. How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?yours is probably like my oldsmobile. there is a center cap that needs to come off and then it takes a special wrench to loosen the hub cap. once it,s lose then you can grab it and pull it off. that wrench is probably in the trunk with your jack. How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?Carefully pry the center cap off the hubcap, and see if there is a nut holding the hubcap on. Once you take that nut off, you can pry the hubcap off, and expose the lugnuts. How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre?theres should be a a little hole on the cap that you can insert a flat head screwdriver put in hole and pry the cap off.How to change a tire on a buick Lesabre? But do you really think you'll be able to loosen the lug nuts and safely jack up the car? There may be caps over the lug nuts that must be loosened first.

How do you change a tire on a van and how much would it cost?

A friend of mine was recently driving a Honda Odyssey and hit a turn too fast. A chunk of the front tire was taken out. I heard that to replace that tire, you must buy all four tires and re-align everything. Is this true, or can you just swap it like a flat? And how much would either of these scenarios cost?

Answers A.S.A.P would be appreciated. How do you change a tire on a van and how much would it cost? You DONT have to buy all new tires, unless the remaining 3 tires are worn down noticably more than a new tire of the same tread pattern would be.

If all the tires were close to new condition before the incident, then just buy ONE tire, make sure it;s the exact same make and model tire, the Tread patterns MUST be the same!

(unless your driving an older pick up truck or a junk vehicle around.)

The new tire must be put on a Rim and MAY or MAY NOT need to be re-aligned, it depends on how bad the wheel got smacked.

(once again you can take a chance, install the tire on the rim yourself, and not align it, but you'll definately notice if the wheel is off alignment once you go around 30mph-65mph, you will get vibrations, or the car will PULL you to the left or right or possibly make noises.)

If the Rim that was in the accident is still okay, then all you gotta do is take it to a tire shop, get them to put a new tire on it, they will balance the tire and everything.

Then they put the Wheel back on the car, and put it on an alignment machine.

(usually costs around $100-200 depending on where you live or where you go.)How do you change a tire on a van and how much would it cost?Unless the other tires are worn you shouldn't need to replace them. The labor to R%26amp;R the tire from the vehicle is usually free with the purchase of the tire + mount/balance. You shouldn't have to pay for the labor to remove the wheel from the vehicle.

You may need to check the alignment after such an impact.

For one tire plus mount balance I'd figure $150. Alignment is about $80. It depends on the tire you get too.How do you change a tire on a van and how much would it cost?no you can just put one tire on if thats what you want. Some place have a policy to sell new tires on an axel, so you would have to buy 2 at a time.

the only reason you would need to buy more than that one tire is if all the other tires are old any ways and you WANTED to replace them. Dont let the tire companies tell you that you HAVE to buy more than one tire. IF they do, take your business elsewhere

How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?

i'm looking for 16'' alloy wheel tyres. How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?Hi, it depends on where you go to buy them as each retailer gives slightly different prices. I would recommend that you go to a place like Just Tyres as they sometimes do a decent offer for tyres sold in pairs and could get a very good deal. Each tyre is a different size, quality and make. The very best tyres are usually Good Year and Firelli but are very expensive. Hope this helps. How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?depends, you can get second hand which are cheap, or brand new which are expensive. How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?It's all dependant on the quality of the tyre. For instance, Falkens cost more than Pirellis. Try to go with the best that you can afford, but my 15%26quot; alloy tyres (205/15/45) cost about 45 for cheap ones, 70 for the average-expensive tyres. How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?Its not just the diameter of the tyres thats is important it is also the width, speed rating and sidewall profile.

An example from kwik fit for Tyre Size 205 (width)/55(profile)W(speed rating) 16(diameter) seems to be in the price range 80 110 each

your tyres may be different specifications and you can find these out by looking at the side of your tyres then phone up your local tyre garage for the best price.

How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?given that your wheel size is 16%26quot;, im going to assume the tyres you need are 205/45 R16 V. For a decent tyre, you will be looking at about 95 a tyre (fully fitted). DONT go to kwik-fit. They are overpriced, and crap. How much does it cost to change tyre's in UK?As others have said it depends on the size and quality of tyre. Cheap tyres really are false economy, they wear far too quickly and you find yourself replacing them much sooner. Price wise they can vary allot, my big merc is 180 quid per tyre, were as my little merc is 60. Look on the side of your tyres and it will tell you the size then phone about for quotes, if you can stay away from kwickfit they are expensive a local independent tyre shop is your best bet.

You pay them and either someone comes out and does your tyres or they tell you where to go in your locality. If you are not sure what to get, then it is easy. If you are about to sell the car, get cheap ones. If you are keeping it for a while, get good ones. Michelins are good and last a long time, so usually cost less per mile than others. How much does it cost to change tyre's for 4wd? How long before it needs changing?Depends how much you use the vehicle, how hard your drive it - until you reach the legal minimum tread requirements basically. As to costs, get on the phone and ring round. How much does it cost to change tyre's for 4wd? How long before it needs changing? That all depends, are they all worn out or just two? How would changing tire sizes affect speed and mileage on my truck?

2001 ford ranger 3.0 v-6. going from 215\65r 15 up to 255\70r 16. The 15's are on the ranger and the 16's are off a 1996 ford explorer going on the ranger. How would changing tire sizes affect speed and mileage on my truck?your size proportions are not correct; never plus more than 1 size

    current size - 215 - 65 - 15

    next size - 225 - 60 - 15

Nothing else will work correctly and you will not have proper calibration on the speedometer

PS - these sizes already sound too big; refer to the owners manual for correct tire size; from that point you may plus 1 size up. bigger is not always better; handling, fuel economy and overall performance will seriously suffer. How would changing tire sizes affect speed and mileage on my truck?Bubba

the truth is going that size of tire will actually increase your fuel mileage because at 70 mph with your old tire your engine would be turning about 2100 rpm and with the taller tires at 70 mph you will only be turning about 1900 rpm. slower engine speed better fuel.

Also in town it will effect it differently. You will have slower acceleration due the the bigger tire so you will get less fuel mileage in town. is it easier to swing a baseball bat or a 20' pole. Same thing when you go to bigger tires.

So what is your daily driving like? in town I wouldn't go bigger, highway you will actually save money.

Your speedometer will be off but usually only by 5-10 mph. cheapest thing to do is get a buddy with factory sized tires to drive beside you down the highway at 60 and see what your speedometer shows. People think it is difficult to drive with an uncalibrated speedo but it just takes a little thinking.

Now beware because with taller tires your center of gravity will be higher and your truck will have more roll in a turn so slow down until you get the feel of the taller tires. How would changing tire sizes affect speed and mileage on my truck?you'd totally change the truck, the weight will affect performance, and your odometer and speedometer would no longer be accurateHow would changing tire sizes affect speed and mileage on my truck?well Logically a Larger tire size would consume more gas because it's revolutions are longer

What should I do if my tire got flatted and no spare wheel?

    I'm ordering one, but it won't be here till next month. In case of emergency, what's the best advice here? like.. will a full insurance coverage tow it? or can i take the wheel or whatever it is off the car and take it to a shop and change tire and put it back on? (of course get someone who know how to). ??? i know this made sounds stupid but just wondering..What should I do if my tire got flatted and no spare wheel?You have a lot of options like;

    1. bring a foot pump with you in case of a flat tire, pump enough air to your tire so that you can reach a nearest vulcanizing shop.

    2. while waiting for your new tire, buy a temporary tire that you can use as a temporary spare tire.

    3. borrow from some one while waiting for your new tire

    4. or if you dont like doing the above mentioned solutions, suffer the consequence of everytime you encounter a flat tire, you have to remove it and bring it nearest vulcanizing shop.

I want to change tire sizes on our van. How do I determine a suitable and safe size?

We have a 2005 Honda Odyssey that has P235 65R16 tires on it (OEM). A couple years ago, we had a blowout near Memphis, Tennessee (far from home) and spent most of the next couple days trying to find a tire dealer that stocked this size (rather than being on vacation). I've called some of the tire shops near my home and found that none of them stock my size on a regular basis. It's now time to replace all the tires on the van and I want to switch to a size that is much more common so if this happens again, I can quickly get a replacement. How do I determine what an appropriate, more common, size would be?I want to change tire sizes on our van. • Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage?

I'm going from a 31/10.50/15 all terrain tire to a 245/75/16 highway tread how much differance in milage can I expect ?Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage?G Man,,,Those 2 are So Close in Diameter that even on paper the Difference is %26quot;none%26quot;.

    31/10.50/15 = 30.20%26quot; O.D.

    245/75/16 = 30.47%26quot; O.D.

About a 1/4%26quot; Difference in Diameter

Which is less than 1%26quot; in Circumference.

Just for example,,,I ran it across a calculator.

    I used a 3.5 Overall Gear Ratio @ 2,500 RPM

The 15%26quot; tire would run at 64.2 mph

The 16%26quot; tire would run at 64.77mph

    About a 1/2 MPH Difference around 64~65mph.

No MPG gain from Tire size change,,cuz there's No real change in size.

You MAY get some improvement from the Tread/Design differences.

A/T designs have made much progress over last several years,,,most are surprisingly Efficient these days.

Still,,a GOOD hiway tire will always have less rolling resistance than an Average A/T.

There's a Little extra MPG potential there.

    LITTLE is the key word.

If the comparrison was a GOOD A/T vs an Avg HiWay tire,,,it could easily be a wash,,,or the A/T Might even %26quot;win%26quot;.

Point is,,,,with Modern Tires the Differences are THAT close in most cases .

If that's Dissapointing,,,,look at the Bright Side.

You can be confident the new tires wont HURT mileage.

Plus You'll probably have a much nicer ride, quieter, smoother

Take careWill changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage?if anything going to a bigger tire will hurt milage, more wieght. Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage? It won't change much.

A bigger tire can make matters worse. They are heavier and affect the ratios the vehicle was intended for.

A more narrow tire can make a slight improvement.

    Proper inflation is more important.

Driving habits account for a lot too. Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage? With a change like that your speedometer will be so screwed up, how can you tell the difference?

On most tire size changes the difference is so little one can't really tell. Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage? You can calculate the theoretical difference- a ratio of the two circumferences will show you a very slight decrease in rpm at cruising speed *should* give you a very slight improvement in mileage. Rolling resistance is improved with narrower tires, but again this is hard to calculate beforehand.

I've got big tires on my pickup. On a good fillup, I can get 19 mpg. On bad fillups, it drops to 17. Towing? All bets are off.

Drive easier. If mileage concerns you a lot, think about switching to a different vehicle. The cost of the new wheels and tires may take you a long time to recoup. Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage?you will get much better gas milage.!!

    new tread,bigger tire,=better gas milage.

    i envy U....( just kiddin`).

Hope i was of 'Some' help.

deb*Will changing tire size and tread pattern help with gas milage?THE 245/75/16 ACTUALLY IS .1%26quot; LESS IN DIAMETER .So in fact it is only 1/2%26quot; narrower if you do the math like was suggested. There may be a very slight positive difference in fuel mileage due mainly to the 1/2%26quot;.The difference in speedometer will hardly be noticed.

I need help on a husky riding lawnmower tire change?

I am having trouble removing the left rear tire on my 16.5 42 in husky riding lawn mower. It seems to be stuck. Does anyone know how to get it off?I need help on a husky riding lawnmower tire change? The only way to remove from mower is to cut off without causing damage to transaxle. Manufactures do not use never-sieze on there products. Do not try to hit off rim with hammer, will cause damage to axle asm.I need help on a husky riding lawnmower tire change? You need to make sure you have removes any kind of securing clip from the axle. If so, then you need to force it off due to rust between the rim and the axle.I need help on a husky riding lawnmower tire change? You probably have a cotter pin or something of that nature under the axle cover. Should be a plastic piece over center of tire hub to keep dirt out. Remove that and the 4 nuts that hold tire on and you should be farting through silk shorts before you know it.

After how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?

I'm a new biker, I live in WI and own a Honda Stateline 2010. I ride almost 600 miles every month. I tried to find answer to this question in owner's manual without any luck. So help me bikers, after how many miles I should change tires of my bike? After how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?measure the tread depth , most bike tires have wear bars between the treads , when you are coming up on those times to change them .

It depends on useage riding habits ect I got 13k out of my rear and 17k ou of my front tireAfter how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?MC tires have wear indicators just like cars and trucks. Go to a reputable tire store and have them show you. A MC store can do the same.

Hard acceleration and braking quickly shorten the tire life so there is no good standard for tire mileage and tire life. Pretty much riding style. Hard riding = short tire life and vise versa. After how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?Buy a small tire tread gage at your automotive store and use it to measure the depth of your tread. Some gages come with a yellow band followed by a red band. If your tire tread depth is in the red change the tire. Remember that most bike tires are made of a softer rubber compound that %26quot;sticks%26quot; to the road for hard cornering and stopping. This rubber compound wears out the tire very fast. You need maximum tread depth to allow water to be channeled away and maintain tire contact with the road in wet weather or wet conditions. If your state has a yearly inspection for vehicles this is one thing they check. Also you might stop by a motorcycle dealer to learn how they detect a tire with excessive wear. They can give you a few good tips. After how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?Average would be between 5 and 8 thousand for the rear and 8 to 15 thousand for the front. It all depends on how you ride and where you ride. After how many miles I should change tires of my motor bike?Stick a U. S. quarter in the groove and if it doesn't touch the head it's close enough to start checking prices on new tires.

How do they change tires on a Boeing 747?

Do they have to change them? How is it done and how often? How do they change tires on a Boeing 747?Aircraft Tires are changed based on wear limits. Their lifespan is determined by the number of landings and/or runway conditions such as icy or wet, by how well inflated they are, etc. The appropriate aircraft maintenance manual will give you the acceptable wear limits.

They are replaced according to the maintenance manual instructions. These instructions give you the tools necessary to perform such task. Keep in mind that these instructions may vary from plane to plane so make sure u are using the correct one.

To summarize the process a little, let me tell you that a 60 ton or more oleo/pneumatic jack is used to lift the tire off the ground. It's a sefety procedure to lift the jack using the nitrogen contained in the tire. This way u are assuring the tire is being deflated too so to prevent a tire explosion.

The nuts and retainers that hold the tire to the axle are removed, the wheel is then removed and a new one is installed. The nuts and retainers are reinstalled and tightened to a specific limit (Torque) and the wheel is lowered to the ground. The last thing u do is check tire inflation pressure.

How do they change tires on a Boeing 747?I don't own a 747 but I do own my own airplane. We have several inspections throughout the year and they all involve inspecting the tires. The tires wear like a car tire. Sometimes you get bald spots on a tire (I even get them on the nose tire although I don't know why). However, most common is that the tires wear out from being weathered (we don't put many miles on them). Aircraft tires are unlike car tires in that they have tubes in them. The wheel hub splits in two (is held by nut/bolt) and the tire comes off. When you change it you put a new tube in there (with some baby powered so it slides into the tire) and put the tire on. Luckily we don't need all the big equipment to change a tire on a wheel that you need for a car. On the 747 you have two wheel trucks per wing so you can just lift one truck without having to jack up the plane. How do they change tires on a Boeing 747?With a Very big 4 way...

How do you know when to change tires on your car?

I have an '01 Subaru Forester with ~68k miles on it. I drive ~12k a year, the bulk during the summer months. There's no obvious to me reason to change the tires but I'm not a mechanic either and I know everything has its limits. How can I know when to change the tires without some salesman swindling me into buying them prematurely?

Thanks. How do you know when to change tires on your car?Sometimes tires need to be replaced before they wear out bc of other problems you can't see. I doesn't mean you have to replace them it will be wise to have it in mind, especially if you drive longer distances or have kids you want to keep safe. The best thing to do is to go to the tire store or closest place that deals in tires. Sears, Pep Boys, tire discounters, even some Wal Marts have tires shops. Have them checked out professionally bc it is free. The guy will come out and look at all your tires and point out if there are any problems and maybe measure the tread depth and check air pressure if you ask them to and to see how much life is left on them. They may have damage that you won't or don't see and they will prob tell you and show you. This does not mean you have to buy tires at that time ever, but it will tell you if there is anything wrong with them to watch out for such as cracking, bulges, belt seperation, etc. There are many things that can go wrong with tires with daily driving.

Please have them checked out for your own safety and benefit. you can even go to two or more places to see if they say the same things. But don't tell them you went to the other place(s).How do you know when to change tires on your car?look at them..any tread???? put Lincoln penny head first into tread..if it touches his head ur okHow do you know when to change tires on your car? There are ware indicators in between the treads. They are little straight pieces of rubber between the treads and when they are even with the tread its time to replace the tire. How do you know when to change tires on your car?the tires will have %26quot;wear bars%26quot; that cross the treads and when the tires are new they will be deep inside the tread but when badly worn you can see them easily. when the tread is worn down even with them replace the tires. also if the tread on the outer edge is gone replace them even if the center tread is still good. it is from under-inflated tires or if you see cracks in the tire sides or tread replace them. that is called dry rot and the tires will blow out soon /How do you know when to change tires on your car?Every car tyre has what we call threads. The deeper the thread the longer the life of the tyre. Most tyres have little nothes of rubber fused in between these threads. These mark your legal limit. With your finger you can normally feel how much thread you have left. The more flat your thread feels in comparison to your legal limit the more worn your tire is. Never leave the tyre to actually reach the legal limit.....it is dangerous and illegal. Stay safe!!How do you know when to change tires on your car?WHEN THEY ARE FLATHow do you know when to change tires on your car?USUALLY, there are %26quot;wear bars%26quot; that run horizontally between the treads of the tires. When the surface of the tire is worn down even with these wear bars, you have approximately 3/32%26quot; tread left. Change them. The tread is not deep enough to channel water, nevermind snow or slush, away from the tires to prevent hydroplaning. If you can't find the wear bars, pick up a cheap tire tread depth guage at your local auto parts store or flea market. It's only a couple of bucks. Most tires come with 11/32%26quot; tread when they are new. If you are below 4/32%26quot; you are on borrowed time and you are about to run out of luck, possibly the next time it rains.

  • How difficult is it to change tires on my car?

I want to know how difficult it is to change the TIRES, NOT WHEEL, on my car. I can replace a flat, but I need to buy new tires and is it possible for me to replace them myself? How difficult is it to change tires on my car?you can change tires yourself, but i would not recommend it as you would need special tools, don't know if they make them any more, if you do don't forget to mark weights in case you knock them off. best way to break tire from rim is place tire in front of wheel just enough so tire can run over edge of tire and break loose from rim.How difficult is it to change tires on my car?On a scale of 1-10 I would say 9.75How difficult is it to change tires on my car?Not going to happen, they use a machine to get the tire back onto the wheel and without it, its pretty damn near impossible.

Heck just pay for it, its not that expensiveHow difficult is it to change tires on my car?Changing the tires involves safe practices. Mounted tires can be changed with a wrench and a jack. Tires alone are removed from the car while on the rims, placed onto a tire changer and replaced. This is a labor-intensive process. How difficult is it to change tires on my car?No! It can be done with tire irons, but it isn't worth the risk of damaging the bead on a new tire. Even if you can break the bead on the old tires, remove them from the rims, and get the new ones on the rims without destroying them, you're still going to have to pay someone seven bucks a tire to spin balance them. Bottom line is you'll have to pay anyways, AND you'll be missing fingers and a day of your life that you'll never get back. How difficult is it to change tires on my car? It's really impossible to remove your own tires at home and mount new ones. Visit your local tire shop and watch them at work, the specialized tools to remove and install a tire are all pneumatic and press the bead away from the rim. At home beating and pounding on the bead to break it loose would probably result in damage to your rim as well as damage to yourself. And once they're mounted you'll need them balanced as well. The basic tools alone would be many times over what a tire shop would charge you to do the job.How difficult is it to change tires on my car?Without the proper tools it is not possible. If you are buying new tires, most places will mount them for free. They will usually charge for balancing though.

How often do planes change tires? It seems like they waste their tires with every landing. Is it true?

When i see a plane landing, planes tires are always giving out a smoke like its all wasted. Do they change tires soon? How long does a set of tyre can hold up on a commercial jet plane?

And lastly, how much does it cost to buy a single plane tyre? :)How often do planes change tires? It seems like they waste their tires with every landing. Is it true?Smoke has little to do with it. There is always wear after any landing and alot of it has to do with weight, length of runway, and pilot skill. I worked on KC-10s and DC-10. Tires would sometime last 20-30 landings or more. But if there are heavy loads (cargo, passengers) then the wear is accelerated. Tires get changed long before they are ruined. There is a layer of ply approx: 9/32 under the tread groove. When you hit it, you change the tire. This allows the tire to be retreaded and you pay for a retreaded tire instead of a new one. Large tire such as those cost nearly 10,000 dollars. They a split wheels and very heavy. Testing of anything by the FAA jacks the price up. Actually, I changed more tires due to cuts than wear. Proper inflation, I should mention, is the best way to save tire, prolong the use, and save lives. Aircraft have crashed and people died due to under inflated tires! How often do planes change tires? It seems like they waste their tires with every landing. Is it true?Aircraft tires are designed to withstand extremely heavy loads for short durations. The number of tires required for aircraft increases with the weight of the plane (because the weight of the airplane is distributed better). Aircraft tire tread patterns are designed to facilitate stability in high crosswind conditions, to channel water away to prevent hydroplaning, and for braking effect. Aircraft tires are usually inflated with nitrogen or helium in order to minimize expansion and contraction from extreme changes in ambient temperature and pressure experienced during flight. Dry nitrogen expands at the same rate as other dry atmospheric gases, but common compressed air sources may contain moisture, which increases the expansion rate with temperature. Aircraft tires generally operate at high pressures, up to 200 psi (13.8 bar) for airliners, and even higher for business jets.

Aircraft tires also include heat fuses, designed to melt at a certain temperature. Tires often overheat if maximum braking is applied during a rejected takeoff or an emergency landing. The fuses provide a safer failure mode that prevents tire explosions by deflating in a controlled manner, thus minimizing damage to aircraft and objects in the surrounding environment.

The main purpose of requiring that an inert gas, such as nitrogen, be used instead of air, for inflation of tires on certain transport category airplanes is prompted by at least three cases in which the oxygen in air-filled tires combined with volatile gases given off by a severely overheated tire and exploded upon reaching autoignition temperature. The use of an inert gas for tire inflation will eliminate the possibility of a tire explosion

    .

The service life and price of aviation tires is depended upon the type and weight of an aircraft and the size of the tire.

    .

For what it's worth the space shuttle tires are each only used one time and cost $70,000.00 a piece.

  • What do i need to do to start an oil and tire change business?

I am starting my own car detailing/rental bay business and I want to also do oil changes and new and used tire changes. Im not sure if I need certificates for oil changes or how to go about getting one. What should I do first? I have worked in the automotive field for 10 years and I know alot about auto repair. Im just not sure what i have to do legally. I've already done my business proposal and I have investors and a location. Now what?? Help me....What do i need to do to start an oil and tire change business?Your going to need a lot. First off you are going to need a building with service bays, Lifts , or pits to change the oil in. Secondly you will need tires, and again lifts and jacks to change tires with. You will also need a machine to balance tires and rims. You will need bays to rent out as well. You will need courtesy vehicles to pick up and drop off customers. You will need buffers, many chemicals, hot water extractors, vacuums, ladders, water tanks and much more to detail cars. You will also need permits and employees which aren't cheap. You need to train your workers because no one is going to come to a business and trust their car to someone off the street w/o any certification. You also need ways to dispose of the oil as most states and countries have strict laws on those type things. Overall a business like this will take a lot of money time, and effort to start.

How do I change a tire this fast?

I just had my tire changed by roadside assistance in less than 5 minutes. He had one of those automatic drills to remove the lugnuts. And a blue jack that had a long handle. What are the names of these and how much do they cost? Is it normal for someone to be able to change a flat this fast? He only put my spare on, but I went to a mechanic after that and they took over 30 minutes to put on a new tire-no rotation or anything-just one tire. How do I change a tire this fast?I can do it in 5 minutes with all hand tools. It's really not that hard.

The jack is just a standard hydraulic jack. The drill is an electric impact gun/wrench. Go to any automotive/tools store and see the prices they offer. How do I change a tire this fast? hire someone to do it..jk..lol

Those are the tools. Altogether the cost is somewhere around 400-500 dollars. Since he was putting the spare on, yes, the time would be relatively quick. The 30+ minutes for just one tire. I put them on for a living myself. It takes me about 25 to lift the vehicle, remove the spare, pull the old tire off the rim, put a new tire back on, balance the tire, which should have been done, back on to the hub, and torqued down. Now, any problems with the old tire, like it's shredded, split in half, can add to that time. The question I have is, was there any cars worked on before yours? The tech could have been finishing up a car before he got to yours. How do I change a tire this fast?Ok, I am a former mechanic highscool trained and from there on.

Yes it can take a man approx. 5 minutes to change a tire, I worked for a station this is how I know these details and I'll tell them to you. A tow truck driver has a limited amount of time to get you done then go on to another, his skills taught him time is everything when you get paid by the car, however a station mechanic will take over thirty Min's because they have allot of other cars to service that makes more %26quot;profit%26quot; then your air leak. If I am getting 300.00 dollars to do your tune-up and someone comes in with a flat which has higher priority ???? When I have a 25,000.00 dollar month rent to pay, plus salaries ? Get the point, Technically speaking. How do I change a tire this fast? You can pick up a hydraulic jack and an electric cordless 1/2%26quot; drive impact gun at any Sears store. A good jack will be in the $80+ range, a good cordless impact gun well over $200. How important is it to you to change a tire fast and how often do you expect to do it?How do I change a tire this fast? The work can be divided into three phases. They are Move, Queue, and Process. This is important because to speed things up the only thing that can be done quicker is the queue.

Take the guy who changed your tire in five minutes. Did you account for the time it took for him to get there (move time). Did you count the time he waited from receiving your call until heading out (Queue time).

Now for the 30 minutes. How much time was your car setting waiting for someone to work on it? (Queue time) how much time did it take to move your car from the parking lot to the shop lift? (Move time) And finally, how much time was actually spent working on the car? (Process time)

The jack sounds like a scissor jack kind of like the one here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDQ

The automatic drill was most likely an electric impact wrench. These come powered by air pressure, battery (cordless), and 110 volt that plugs into a standard electrical outlet. Here is one powered by air:

One should be able to change a tire within five minutes. I don't want to be setting by the road any longer than I must as I don't want to be hit by on coming traffic.

To do this requires some advance planning. Read the owner's manual to find out where the jack, lug wrench, and spare tire are stored. Check to be sure they are there and you know how to use them also check the spare tire pressure every time you have the oil changed. Sitting on a road on a cold wet winter night is not the time to find out these things.

All 4 tires were super tight

i have a 2000 ford explorer.Change a tire?Bring a breaker bar or have a pipe to extend the tire iron so you don't need to use as much force. Most likely the lugs were overtightened at some point, at a shop etc, many 'cheap' shops don't care about overtightened lugs/bolts etc.Change a tire?in a case like that, there isnt much you could do... it sounds like the last person who rotated your tires or put your wheels on, used an impact wrench and tighted the lugnuts until they would tighten no more... he should have tighten them and torqued them to manufacturer recommendations... which wouldnt have made them so darn hard to remove...Change a tire?Have your tires rotated every 6000 miles. Make sure the shop uses a torque wrench to tighten them to spec (usually about 90 - 100 ft.lbs) that way you can get them off if this ever happens again.Change a tire?I feel your pain , I am sorry for that however who ever put them on went way beyond the specs on lug nuts 150lbs should be all it needs, If I were you stop by the parts place and get a 4 way lug wrench and that should solve any problem that you should ever haveChange a tire? All cars have a torque specification for lug nuts. yours were obviously to tight. You can buy torque sticks so your lug nuts are at the right specification or a torque wrench. People usually tighten lug nuts more then they have to because they freak out and think its not tight enough and their wheels are going to fall off. But go to an auto zone get a HAYNES MANUEL for your year make and modle and it'll tell you the torque specification for the lug nuts in there. Not many people take the time to do all this but if you don't want any more incidents then this may be a good idea.Change a tire?for about 60 bucks, you can get a 6v impact wrench to loosen the lugs with the push of the trigger, plugs in your cigarette lighter, I keep a set of plugs with an installation tool for holes, and a 20.00 compressor, got me out of more than one jam.Change a tire? Now that you have your flat fixed and I would hope you had the other nuts loosened get a can of never seize it comes in a can with a dipstick like paint brush. Re-loosen your lug nuts and on the studs apply a little never seize to each stud and then re-tighten all the lug nuts. Next time you have a flat a good lug wrench will break all the nuts loose without getting a hernia.Change a tire?Like almost every nut or bolt on a vehicle, there are torque specs for lug nuts. If you can prove that the last guy who tightened yours didn't follow them, give him the tow truck bill. .

I carry a half inch drive socket, and a long %26quot;breaker bar%26quot; with me. I can stand on the handle if I need too. I haven't seen a lug nut yet that can resist my lard. The lug wrenches that come with cars are usually junk.

  • How to change tire for a 1993 subaru legacy? I have removed the lug nuts. can't get tire off.?

Thump the inside of the rim with a big hammer a few times (Do not bend the rim) but sometimes you have to be a bully to get them off.

Another way is... put all the lug nuts back on about half way, set the car back on the ground... if on the front... turn the wheel back and forth a couple times... in the rear... rock the car side to side a few times... these usually work for us.

    - Good Luck! How to change tire for a 1993 subaru legacy? I have removed the lug nuts. can't get tire off.?Is the car jacked up off the ground? How to change tire for a 1993 subaru legacy? I have removed the lug nuts. can't get tire off.?It might need a little muscle to break it away from the axle hub. Rust builds up between the rims and axle hubs, heat and moisture cause the metal to seize together. You need to spray some rust remover (PB Blaster) into and around the lug nuts and allow in to set for several minutes. Get a large hammer and a big piece of wood. Carefully hold the wood flat against the rim and strike it with the hammer. If that doesn't free the rim, put the lugs back on finger tight and place the wheel back on the ground and push on the fender of the car in the direction of the rim. Very common with aluminum rims and steel brake parts. How to change tire for a 1993 subaru legacy? I have removed the lug nuts. can't get tire off.?all of the above, but be sure to set the car on jack stands, as you cannot trust a jack when working on the car your self. Otherwise, take it in and have a mechanic loosen the rim from the hub. I've had to get the rim hot with a cutting torch to get them loose. Guess what, it happened to be a Subaru...

How to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?

I just got a flat and I need to change the tire on my suv. We have no user's manual because it was a repo... Thanks! How to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?ok, I'm going to assume that you have the 2 rods that are stored behind the rear seat, the jack and the lugwrench.I am also assuming that you can't get the spare out. When you open the tailgate, look just below the weather stripping at the bottom. there you should see a small hole about the size of a nickel in the center. connect the two rods together and insert the curved end into the hole. that is what ratchets the spare down from the frame. use the lugwrench to turn the rod by inserting the square end of the rod into the hole on the lugwrench shaft. that will lower the spare to allow access to it. beyond that, block the wheels to prevent the truck from moving when it is jacked up and change the flat. hope this has helped. How to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?just look for your tire tool and make the lug nuts loose and jack it up and then take the tire offHow to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?Just like any other car. Loosen the lug nuts, jack up the car, remove the lug nuts. Take the wheel off, replace it with a spare/new wheel, tighten lug nuts as much as possible, lower car down, retighten lug nuts to around 70 ft/lbs to be safe.

If you actually wanted to change the tire from the rim you will need a few special tools and its just cheaper to take it somewhere. How to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?Okay.

If the tire is flat and you have a spare:

    1. Place a jack near the tire that needs to be removed. There should be an indentation or dimple, depending upon the jack, where your factory jack will go.

    2. Block the back wheels.

    3. Loosen the lugs using a lug wrench.

    4. Raise the jack and remove the lugs the rest of the way.

    5. Remove the tire and place spare tire on lugs.

    6. Tighten lug nuts finger tight and lower vehicle.

    7. Use lug wrench to tighten lugs the rest of the way and remove jack and blocks from tires.

    8. Go to a certified shop and have the flat tire repaired.

If the tire is flat and you have no spare, take the tire to a shop and have it fixed if you have alternate transportation. If not, call and have it taken out there.

Under no circumstance should you use %26quot;Fix-a-Flat%26quot;. That green gunk will plug the hole for a while, but, over time, it will corride the inside of the tire.

If your tire is punctured on the sidewall, you'll need to purchase a new one. A tire dealer will be able to set you up with the proper size and install it.How to change tire on 2003 ford explorer sport?STEP 1: jack up.

    STEP 2: get donut/spare ready.

    STEP 3: unscrew the lugnuts.

    STEP 4: take off tire.

    STEP 5: put on donut/spare.

STEP 6: tighten lugnuts in star pattern so as not to strip bolts.

    So confused.

Thanks! On a 2010 Mustang GT Do I need to change tire pressure sensors everytime I get new tires?Besides some idiot at the tire shop not knowing how to dismount a tire with pressure sensors in them, the only thing you should have to worry about is the battery in them running low, which shouldn't happen for several years.

There is no re-set procedure per-se, like on earlier systems. The receiver should get a reading within 2 minutes of driving your car at a minimum speed of 20 mph. The sensors from a similar car should work fine too.

    Sounds like you don't have a copy of your Owner's Manual? You can download a PDF copy from Ford here;
