How often in miles should you change mud and snow tires?

I'm bringing my SUV in tomorrow for a rotation and to see if I should have new tires for a very snowy week ahaed... how can I tell a sales pitch from a real necessity for new tires? How often in miles should you change mud and snow tires? There is no one answer. Different tires use different rubber compounds which wear at different rates. Also, your driving habits also play a great deal in determining the tires longevity.

Take a look at the remaining tread depth of your tires. Is it even across the width of the tire ( or is it wearing either on the inside, centre, or outside of the tire )? As long as they're wearing evenly, you will get the full life expectancy out of those tires. If the wear is uneven, their useful life expectancy is cut short. Also, a tire is considered legally bald when it reaches 2/32%26quot; tread remaining ( but many tire experts suggest changing a tire at 4/32%26quot; ). If you're close to this wear point, they may suggest buying new tires at this time. How often in miles should you change mud and snow tires?how i do it

How does a "low tire" sensor work?

My 2008 Honda has a dash light that comes on when a tire has low air pressure. How can it do that? The tires aren't hooked up to anything. How does a %26quot;low tire%26quot; sensor work? The tire pressure sensor doesn't actually measure the tire pressure. It uses the wheel speed sensor (part of the ABS) to measure very minute differences in rotational speed between all four tires. When it senses a difference from what a nominally good tire is, it will turn on the tire pressure light. Note that you will need to check the tire pressure in all tires, as it doesn't indicate which tire is the problem. Once the tire pressure is adjusted, reset the light according to the owner's manual. You'll also need to do this after changing to a spare. How does a %26quot;low tire%26quot; sensor work? There's actually two different types, direct and indirect. What the other guy described was indirect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_pressuHow does a %26quot;low tire%26quot; sensor work?It uses a sensor inside the wheel, behind the valve stem. This system is called TPMS Tire pressure monitoring system.

When tire pressure is low, it sends out a signal to a reciever that indicates which tire is low, then your indicator lights come on.

These sensors are battery powered, they last about 7-10 years.

They transmit to RF signals.

How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?

Can I simply remove the two lines to the fuel filter, change filter and reconnect the lines? How do I keep gas from draining? How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?I recently added this section onto my seb site. There is a part on there wtih images and with text to show you how to do it. There will not be very much fuel, if any, coming from the filter. I would still have a small container to catch it, because even a drop can make you smell for a while.

http://www.myjeepwrangler.com/fuel-filte

Here are the instructions that I copied and pasted:

This is the location of the fuel filter in my '95 Jeep Wrangler. The view is from the back, driver's side. The best way to get to the fuel filter is to get under the Jeep from in front of the back driver's side tire. It is mounted on the inside of the frame.

You will have to loosen the straps buy using a flat head screw driver on both sides of the fuel filter. Unscrew the strap in the middle holding the filter to the frame. Once the straps are loose, get out the the way, because some gas will leak when you pull the filter out. Pull the tubes off of each side of the fuel filter and replace it with a new one.

Hope this helps! How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche? There won't be that much gas come out in order to change the filter. Go ahead and try it.How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?Yes you can do that but I would suggest you relieve the pressure on the system first. If you do not relieve it you will get an eye-full of fuel and that will burn your eyes. The way to relieve pressure is under the hood. Locate the fuel injection rail. It will be a shiny silver line along the intake on the engine. It will be connected to all of the injectors. On this line there is a Schroeder valve (just like the air valve on your tire). Remove cap and depress valve to relieve pressure. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?no draining at all. remove the two lines and a little gas will come out. make sure you follow the arrow on the filter and you'll be done in about five minutes. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche? If this Heep is fuel injected, remove fuel pump relay in underhood relay box and crank engine until dead.

Pressure relieved. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?Yes, you simply repace the filter. And there will be some dribbles in the process. It is best to remove the lines and then stop what you are doing and take a break allowing the filter to finish dribbling before finishing the process. Obviously, don't smoke or have other sources of ignition during the process.

How can I change my attitude about extended family I dislike?

I have known my step daughters for 10 years they are now 27 and 30. I dislike the younger because she has always been selfish, vain ,rude and chilly(True Ice Princess). I have grown to dislike the elder because of the years of lies and hardships she has caused. I have been good to both and have been the family emotional punching bag until recently. I have had enough and I am tired. Their father will not try to help. I have tried to change my attitude, but I grow to dislike them with each attempt. I pretend to be interested when they call and I am nice when they are present. I literally get knots in my stomach and become quite tense and unhappy when there is going to be a family get together. My husband is of no use and he is aware of the issues. Yes, we have all shared our feelings and could never get past the anger and resentment. I am sure they would like me to disappear too, so what do I do?How can I change my attitude about extended family I dislike?I see you are getting all the typical respsonses someone gets when having these kinds of problems. I would venture to say if any of these people were in the same situation they would not be dealing with it much better than you.

You are the only one that can change the situation and to do that you must take control of your emotions. There will be a price to pay in order to gain control of %26quot;your%26quot; life and you may not at this time be prepared to pay the price. Notice I said %26quot;your%26quot; life not %26quot;their%26quot; life.

You stated you have all engaged in conversation and attempted to address the issues with no results. Obviously they are not interested in change because they are in control of their life and your life. You have allowed them to make you a prisoner in your own home. You have turned over control of your life to them.

One of the respondents wanted you to believe this is a typical and acceptable way for families to live. If they choose to exist in that kind of enviornment let them, but you do not have to. They went on to say that in crisis familes come together. How sad they are willing to live in hell until a crisis comes along for a few days or weeks of coming together. They need help more than you.

Another suggested you join clubs and stay away. Basically they are telling you to run from your problem, leave your home and seek refuge some place else, become even more of a prisoner to them and give them more control of your life.

It seems your husband does not love you enough to make a choice between you or them. If you are in the right it should be easy for him to make a choice to support you in this matter unless you are no more than housekeeper, sex partner and cook for him. One of the prices you may not be willing to pay is to walk away from him if he refuses to resolve this matter. You have allowed him to straddle the fence long enough.

You need to set the ground rules and one of those ground rules initially should be they do not come to your home unless invited. Once again only you can enforce that rule.

The next thing you should do is immediately put your home on the market and move. Regardless if the relationship is good or bad living across the street from children is not healthy. It is only natural for children to take advantage of parents and parents wanting to be too involved in their childrens lives when living across the street or next door.

Sit down an make a list of rules. Give much thought to this list and do not be petty. Before you present the list to the children allow your husband to look it over and enter into constructive debate with him about the list. When the two of you can come to an agreement present the list with him present to the children and make it clear that unless these rules are obeyed they cannot come to the house.

It is human nature to take advantage of the weakest links and at the moment it appears you are the weakest link. I watched as my Mother was taken advantage of by my two sisters until she died at 87 years of age. She chose to be their prisoner because she did not think herself strong enough to pay the price to break the chains. The last eighteen years of her life were her happiest because I got her far enough away where they could only see her once or twice a year, but still they harrassed her via telephone. I never had that problem because when my Father died at 14 I broke those chains and did not allow them to control me ever again. To this day they have more respect for me than they do their husbands or even their children. Their children ask me how is it they do not treat me as they do others. The answer is simple I love myself too much to become anyones prisoner. Respect should be earned, but as a general rule people do not respect people who do not demand respect. How can I change my attitude about extended family I dislike? You are so right ( Tom 1941)- it really comes down to self preservation. You really gave me a different perspective on this situation - I no longer feel guilty. However you have also inspired me to fight for my sanity. I worked very hard for my home - she will be the one to move

How can I change my attitude about extended family I dislike?Try these steps. (p.s. The first one is already taken.)

1. Take ownership of the your feelings involved in this. Admit that you are responsible for the feelings you have, whether they are positive or negative.

2. Try to pinpoint exactly which specific reasons cause you to dislike a person. Once you understand the character traits that cause you dismay, perhaps you can try to understand what this means to the person you hate. Do they behave this way out of spite? or necessity? (Unfortunately, some people are not taught the same diplomacy skills in the formative years, and only know how to get what they want by more destructive means).

3. Accept them for who they are and simply set the limits on this acceptance. You definitely cannot change this person, no matter how much we wish we could; you can, however, change your attitude ABOUT their attitude(s). Try to laugh it off, or make a joke about their behaviors when it would otherwise become uncomfortable. (Use this at your own risk).

4. Grow beyond being affected so negatively by this and move on. Give them what they're due and do not expect to bond or relate anymore than they are willing to. Recognize these boundaries, respect them, and set your own while at this.

How to change My car's Clutch?

    Hi,

I have a Nissan Maxima 2000 stick shift! It's time to change it's clutch nad replace the new one. I want to replace it myself instead of having someone else to fix it. Does anyone know how to change it with a source???

ThanksHow to change My car's Clutch? You'll need to remove the transmission first. This is a lot of work, especially on a front wheel drive car like your Maxima.

You'll need to remove the axles, the shift linkage, trans mounts, any wiring connectors, slave cylinder/clutch cable (your car will have one or the other,) and the bolts that hold the trans and engine together. You need something to support the trans like a floor jack and a piece of wood so that once it is disconnected from everything and unbolted from the engine you can maneuver the trans back away from the pressure plate and flywheel.

Keep in mind that you'll also need to support the engine before the trans is removed, when I do this at home I use a nice thick block of wood under the oil pan.

Once you get the trans out, you will need to hold the engine still so that the crankshaft can't rotate while you unbolt the pressure plate and flywheel. Either have a friend counter hold the engine with a socket and breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt or rig something up to hold the flywheel still.

Once the engine is held still, unbolt the pressure plate, the clutch disc will then fall right out. Next unbolt the flywheel. You will want to either replace or resurface the flywheel at this point, don't bolt your new clutch assembly up to a flywheel that's full of heat checks, you will regret it once it starts to chatter.

Next replace the throw out bearing (it will be attached to the release fork on the transmission input shaft) and lightly grease the splines of the input shaft with moly grease. If your car has a pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft, use a puller tool to remove it and install a new one. Bolt up the new or resurfaced flywheel (you'll have to look up the torque specs in a manual). Now you will need to use the clutch disc alignment tool (usually is included with the clutch kit) to center the clutch disc against the flywheel so that you can put the pressure plate on. Align the pressure plate with the dowel pins on the flywheel and torque the bolts to specs. Remove the alignment tool and you're ready to put the trans back in.

This is the hardest part. You need the input shaft of the trans to slide smoothly back into the splines of the clutch disk and into the pilot bearing (if your car has one.) Lift the trans into position with the jack and leave the jack where it is so you can rest the trans on it if you get tired. You will know when the trans slides in. Don't force it in by using the bolts to pull the trans towards the engine, you can damage the trans and you'll have to do this all over again!

Once you get the trans in place, start putting everything back together.

Make sure the pedal feels good and you can shift into every gear, including reverse. If all is well, take it for a test drive. Remember that a new clutch must be broken in for at least 500 miles. This means keep the revs down, keep downshifting to a minimum and try to avoid heavy traffic if at all possible.

If you still want to do it yourself after reading this, good for you! Definitely pick up a manual as it will help you out if you forget how something goes together or you get stuck somewhere. How to change My car's Clutch?kasra this isnt a job for a newbe. it requires special tools many of them (lifts, alignment tools, etc.) one mistake can cost a bunch to the wallet. also the mechanic needs to closely examine for damaged and worn parts. I think I have an addictive personality. How to change that?

Everything I do, I do too much of. I don't know how to just do a little bit of anything which sometimes gets me into hot water. I never know when to stop. How do you change that?I think I have an addictive personality. How to change that?It is apparent that a motivation, or physiological drive stronger than our conscious concerns is at work fueling addictive behaviors. Addiction, drugs or other means giving up conscious control. It is impulsive, unconscious behavior. As it is said in Alcoholics (or narcotics) anonymous, addicts are people who have lost all control of their lives, as well as their substance use and abuse. These people have tried many different times to stop using these substances, for their own personal, financial, or social reasons, and yet they couldn't. They were able to stop for short periods, or curb use for longer periods, but true abstinence over an extended period of time is somewhat rare among true addictive personalities. Also, addiction is a progressive disease.

Most addicts will not stop using until they hit bottom, believing that they may not survive unless they get help. Grateful alcoholics and addicts are those lucky enough to survive long enough to have a sudden, radical, change in orientation, a kind of spiritual awakening. Only you can make the decision that you're sick and tired of being this way, you have to have conscience control at all times, every second, every minute, ever hour for the rest of your life. Once you make up your mind you want to be the change you want to see, only then will you be addiction free.

Good Luck, seek counseling... if you truly commit it will work.I think I have an addictive personality. How to change that?go to a doctorI think I have an addictive personality. How to change that?Well, it depends on what you do too much of. If it is drugs and alcohol, then try to avoid people who do drugs and alcohol. If it is wanting to spend time with friends, that is not addictive. Although, it is good to have a large circle of friends so you have a lot of support and love.I think I have an addictive personality. How to change that?im the same way. i find myself addicted to games, texting, myspace. i cant stop sometimes. hmmm... i wish i knew the answer too.

How do you change a flat tire?

    1) Find the spare tire, jack and tire iron.

    2) Make sure that the car is in gear (or in %26quot;park%26quot; if the car is an automatic) and the emergency brake is set. The car should be parked on a flat piece of pavement.

    3) Remove the flat tire:

    - use the tire iron (the L-shaped bar that fits over the wheel lugs) to loosen each wheel lug. Once you have accomplished this, move the jack underneath the car.

    - raise the car with the jack until the flat tire is completely raised off the ground. Once this is done, remove the wheel lugs completely.

    4) Install the spare:

    - position the spare tire over the wheel studs. This is the most physically challenging part of the whole process. You'll have to hold up the tire and try to line up the holes in the wheel with the protruding wheel studs located on the brake hub.

    - after you have the spare tire hanging on the wheel studs, screw each of the wheel lugs back on.

    - once the spare tire is on, carefully lower the jack. Pull the jack away from the vehicle.

    - the final step is to tighten down the lugs completely.

    5) Put the flat tire in the space where the spare tire was and put the jack and tire iron back in the car.

How many pounds/kilos does it take to change the mpg in your car?

I've heard a myth that losing weight may give you better gas mileage? I doubt it would make a noticeable difference...But how much actual weight gain/loss (i.e. cleaning out the car, buying lighter parts, weight loss) would it take to affect mpg??How many pounds/kilos does it take to change the mpg in your car?In a practical world, if you do not have your car loaded with sand bags in the trunk, forget it about it getting lighter for saving gas, keep your tires a little above your normal tire pressure ( 1 or two pounds) your tire alignment have to be perfect, clean air filter, good oil and filter changed and forget about getting lighter and you'll be notice the change on the milleage.

At least in Texas. For the women- How do you change a flat tire?Well first, you find a jack. Usually one comes with the car. Then check your owners manual (check the glove compartment) to find the proper use and placement of the jack. Then use a lug nut wrench to remove the lug nuts on the tire (the wrench probably also came with the car). Then after you have loosened the nuts, jack up the car and remove the nuts by hand. Then pull the tire off. Put the new tire on. Screw in the nuts as tight as you can get them by hand and then lower and remove the jack. Then use the wrench to finish tightening the nuts as tight as you can get them. Usually the proper way to do this is to tighten them opposite from each other until they are all tight. This is so that you don't mis-balance the tire on one side.

    How much does maintance cost?

I've never owned a car before and I was wondering how much does maintance on a car cost?

For example lets say a Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Chevy Cavaliar, or Ford Taurus ranging from 1995 to 2000 that has been maintained well by a previous owner. And lets say that the mileage ranged from 100K to 150K.

I'm basically looking for the cost of regular maintenance(Oil changes, tires, etc) on a monthly or yearly basis. How much does maintance cost?Juan, It cost allot less than repairs. I'd recommend that you get a good manual for the car %26amp; starting with the simplist tasks, take care of it yerself.Ask friends who are 'motorheads' to help ya out. You may find that ya like it %26amp; you'll know everythings done right.Good Luck %26amp; remember- Cheap is Cheap,Stick with Quaility Parts. How much does maintance cost?yikes, I wouldn't reccomend buying abything w/over 100K miles on it..you're looking at buying a new car soon enough than just worrying about maintenance problems..by the time you maintain it for about 3 years you will have doubled the value of your car!How much does maintance cost?you can figure on an average of spending around 500 a year on regular maintenance, just to keep one in good shape, that's just an average though some cars will cost more,or less, good luck on it.How much does maintance cost?tires about 50.00+ a piece, oil changes 15.00-20.00 every 3to4K,..hy milers need other things as they start to wear out. buy a tool kit and a manual for the car and do it your selfHow much does maintance cost?Car repairs are not very cheap! Out of the vehicles you listed I would have to say that the Chevy Cavalire is probably the cheapest to maintain. If you want good gas mileage, go with the Toyota or Honda. I would have to say the Honda though because they seem to hold up the best (with maintaing it well)

For tires and oil changes, it really varies from car to car. But generally for one of the listed cars you can get an oil change with good oil for $20-$30 and tires can range anywhere between $200 and $400 usually, depending on the tire.

If you buy a car with that many miles on it make sure you do your research on it and look on the Kelly Blue Book website for a value so you dont get ripped off. And if at all possible, have a mechanic look over your car of choice before you buy it. Good luck on buying your first car!

Oh by the way, Oil changes can vary on how much you spend a year depending on how much you drive. I have to hange my oil usually every 2 months. You have to get the oil changed every 3,000 miles. And for tires you usually dont have to buy them that often. Once every few years

And another thing, after looking at the other peoples answers to your question. The first person to answer this (whos name was deb or something along those lines) is in acurate. I wouldnt not recommend buying a car with that many miles, however, I wouldnt say go out and buy one everytime. For a first car, that many miles is just fine. I bought a 2000 Malibu when it was 5 years old and it had 106,000 miles on it. The people who had it before me took care of it pretty well and I had NO problems out of it. I drove the car for about a year and a half and put roughly about 40,000 miles on it in that time. Now, my grandma drives this car everyday. She still has yet to have any problems out of it and it has about 160,000 miles on it. We have taken it on several road trips and she even drove it about 60 miles a day for work for over a year. So used cars are not all bad as long as you make sure that someone is not trying to sell you a big hunk of junk.

Once again Good Luck on buying your first car!How much does maintance cost?i would put aside $40.00 amonth. like a savings. How much does maintance cost? For the Toyota or the Honda, not too much--change the oil every 7000 - 10,000 miles, tune it up, change the air filter, and you should be good. Unless there's a mechanical failure.

Fords and Chevies I'd avoid. I was duped into getting a Chevy many years ago, and shortly after 100,000 miles (like, 100,003! I'm not kidding!) things started going wrong--major things! How much does maintance cost? For a Toyota Corolla, say a 1996, your maintenance costs are not that significant. A typical oil change, if you do it yourself may cost as little as $25-with a genuine Toyota filter($5-6). An air filter costs around $20 or so, also a Toyota part. I prefer to keep everything in my Toyotas original. Discount parts often cause trouble down the road, literally. Check wiper blades and rotate tires and this car is ready to go. The car is bullet proof except for the starter motor which had to be changed twice in its lifetime. With that said, normal maintenance costs for this car shouldn't top $175-$200 per year (allowing for 12k miles/year).

If i was going to buy a brand new R1?

im 18 gonna be 19 soon. how much would the insurance be for a month? and for 1 year? How much would the cost of insurance, oil changing, tire changing and the maintenance for 1 year? If i was going to buy a brand new R1?Insurance $1,200 a year. Oil is $15 every 6 months if you shop around. Don't worry about the tires. No maintenance on a brand new car, it's all warranty. Buy it..If i was going to buy a brand new R1?insurance on that thing is alot cause of ur age, it depends on your driving record too

How long should you change your tires?

I've heard every 10,000 miles to every 50,000 miles.

How long should it REALLY be before you change your tires? How long should you change your tires? It should be based primarily on tread wear, unless other factors such as damage from road hazards or sunlight has rendered them unsafe.

Keep in mind that many of the longer-range tires achieve that by using harder rubber formulations. While those tires are cheaper to run, they might not deliver the handling characteristics that you want. If money is not an issue, and safety is, you might want to go for performance rather than economy. How long should you change your tires? You should have them rotated every 6,000 miles, you know moved to a different place on your car. Each tire and each tire manufacturer tells you when you buy them how long they should last. I think most tires have a lifetime of at least 50,000 unless of course they're punctured or something. How long should you change your tires? As long as the treads are good. You should rotate them though every 5-10,000 miles. When you do rotate them, look for any odd wear pattern on the tires if so get an alignment..

I have a stock 2006 Dodge Laramie 2500 Diesel 4 x 4. I want to change my tire/wheel size. The stock tire is 265/70/17 and I want to put a 305/55/20 on the vehicle. The new tire has about the same amount of rubber surrounding the wheel, but is obviously a much wider tire and 3%26quot; taller because I am going from 17%26quot; wheels to 20%26quot; wheels. I was told there should be no rub, but I am not 100% certain. I am also would like to know how much of a fuel hit I will take?Have a stock 2006 Dodge Laramie 2500 Diesel 4 x 4. I want to change my tire/wheel size.?there's a possibility that they will rub a little on it,you may have to use a leveling kit on it to stop that ,on the fuel you,ll probably loose at least one to two miles per gallon on it,my neighbor just changed his and it hit him pretty hard around 4 miles to the gallon in the city out on the road it doesn't do to bad,you wont know until you try it,each truck will run and perform differently ,and the mileage wont be the same on no two trucks either, good luck with it.Have a stock 2006 Dodge Laramie 2500 Diesel 4 x 4. I want to change my tire/wheel size.?We had to put a leveling kit on my friend dodge with 305's cause it did rubHave a stock 2006 Dodge Laramie 2500 Diesel 4 x 4. I want to change my tire/wheel size.?you will need a programmer to adjust your spedo and odometer as the larger tire will throw that off. also to compensate for the larger tires. you can go for a set of 4.10 gears and will help on the gas mileage some.

A follow up to the ignition coil question?

I asked a few minutes ago about how much it would cost to replace my car's ignition coil, and a couple of you responded that it is a fairly easy thing to DIY.

My question is, if I were to do it myself how would I go about doing it? I have no real mechanical experience beyond replacing fluids and changing tires, so details would be appreciated.

I have a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria with the standard-issue engine.A follow up to the ignition coil question?Look at the part on the web, then it will be easily identifiable and you can see how simple it really is.

It is not that hard to do, and basic tools are all you will need.A follow up to the ignition coil question?are you sure the coil is bad

just follow the spark plug wires to the dis.

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090A follow up to the ignition coil question?Well, you really need to test your car to see if you have ignition spark present or not because if you have spark ok, then your ignition coil is probably not the problem. It's so easy and inexpensive to test for spark using the spark tester shown below, that you should do that first. The effort will be well worth it for diagnosing future problems with your car. You simply disconnect one of the cylinder spark plug wires from its spark plug and reconnect it to the spark tester which is clipped to any metal engine part on the top of the engine. That way, with the hood open, you can peer through the bottom edge of the hood and see the spark tester clipped to the top of your engine. Then crank the engine and see if you see the spark at the tester's electrodes. Be careful when you pull the spark plug wire off. Don't yank on the wire itself. Grab the boot and twist a little while pulling to gradually remove it.

I have 20" chrome rims with keys that I misplace (lost). Yesterday the tire place could not change my tire.?

Do anyone know how to take off rims if you lost the keys too them? The tire place told me to go to Ford Dealership, but Ford said I have custom rims, they would not have the key to them. So I'm stuck with a flat. Any help?I have 20%26quot; chrome rims with keys that I misplace (lost). Yesterday the tire place could not change my tire.?Tire shops run into this all day long day in day out. I'm surprised they don't have a tool to do this. However their is risk they could damage the wheel and maybe that's why they don't want to chance it. How the hell people lose the keys to their wheel locks is beyond me. You are supposed to keep it with the spare tire jack. I have 20%26quot; chrome rims with keys that I misplace (lost). Yesterday the tire place could not change my tire.?Go to a Tire and Rim store, they could probably order u the part if u give them the rim size and ur type of car. Your car will be out of service till ur key comes in. Never try to unlock it without a key...u will mess up the bolt.

I have 20%26quot; chrome rims with keys that I misplace (lost). Yesterday the tire place could not change my tire.?Call a locksmith, they can open the lock and make you a new key. I have 20%26quot; chrome rims with keys that I misplace (lost). Yesterday the tire place could not change my tire.?Go to a different tire place that has the tools to get the lock off. They'll have to destroy it, but you don't have the key anyway.

If there is room around the locking lugnut, they can put on an external remover. If not they can weld a new nut to it and use that to pull it off.

Either way it's a pain, and you'll probably end up paying extra for it.

How do you change a flat tire?

I am sitting on the side of the freeway with a flat, I am wondering if anyone knows how to change it or a website that can give me the info for Free. I dont want to go to a shop and get ripped off.How do you change a flat tire?1. Put car in park. Make sure you have the hazards on. Turn engine off.

    2. Place a wheel chock or large rock behind (if facing up hill), or in front (if facing downhill) the diagonally opposing wheel to prevent the car from rolling. Do this even if you're on a slight incline. Get out the spare, a lug nut wrench (tire iron) and the car jack.

    3. Remove hubcap, if necessary. Obviously if you have rims only you don't need to do this.

    4. Loosen the lug nuts, which hold the wheel in place, before jacking up the car: Place one end of the lug nut wrench over a lug nut. Use a hollow pipe (about 2 feet in length) for leverage by slipping it over the end of the lug nut wrench. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the lug nut. Loosen the lug nuts in a star pattern, first loosen one a few turns, then loosen the one opposite. Work across the tire until all the lug nuts are loose and unscrewed slightly.

    5. Carefully jack up the car. Check your owner's manual for the correct and safe place to put the jack. Jack the car up a little higher than is necessary to remove the old tire so there is room to put the new, full tire on.

    6. Remove the lug nuts all the way and set them aside in a place where you won't lose them and they won't roll away. The flat tire should be hanging from the threaded studs now.

    7. Remove the flat tire and set it aside.

    8. Lift the new tire onto the wheel studs. If you're confused about which is the right way to put the new tire on, check for the valve where you add air, it always faces out.

    9. Replace the lug nuts. Tighten them the same way you loosened them: Give each nut a few turns, first one, then the one opposite, working around the wheel in a star pattern. Try not to tighten adjacent nuts consecutively.

    10. Slowly lower the jack and remove it.

    11. Tighten the lug nuts again as much as you can.

    12. Put the hubcap back on.How do you change a flat tire?look in the trunk there should be a tire a jack and a lug wrench in there if you drive a sedan if a truck it could be under the bed.

    1. put the car in park and emergency break on

2.loosen the lug nuts (bolts on the tire)

    3.jack the car up

    4.remove the flat

5.put the spare on and put the bolts back on do not tighten the bolts all the way just snug

    6. drop the car and tighten the bolts in a star pattern starting with the top bolt then move to the bottom then side to side.

If you got a flat tire would you change it yourself or would you call someone to do it?

If you got a flat in your tire would you change it let someone else do it? That was the the dilemma I faced today. Today my right rear tire got a flat (screw in it). I know how to change a tire and check the fluids in a vehicle. But I pay for Onstar and I have roadside on my Insurance(didn't need it Onstar paid for it). I waited for maybe 20 minutes and it was changed in no time. I know how to do so already, and then I won't have to wait for somebody to do it, and then I might have to pay the person for changing my tire.If you got a flat tire would you change it yourself or would you call someone to do it?yeah I would most likely change myself, unless maybe I was in a hurry to get somewhere, or if there was a chance that I'd get dirty when I was all dressed up and going somewhere nice.

I assume the new tire is already mounted on a wheel. • How do you properly change a tire?

My parents gave me acard to call if I get a flat. I have a spare tire in my car. I wanna be more independent so I'm trying to learn and be on my own without my dad yelling at me when I ask him how to change a tire.

Anyway in my mind I think this is the process:

Get the thingy that lets you lift the car (sorry I don't know the name) and the metal stick that you wind the car lifter thingy up. I know there's a slit on the bottom of the car that you put the car lifter thiny under so you lift the car up without it coming loose.

then I start to lift the car (via rotating metal stick with the car lifter thingy) enough so that the weight is not on the tire that needs changing. (The tire is only an inch off the ground to loosen the nuts/nuggets on the hub caps rigtht? Or is the tire just touching the ground? Confused) Then I get the cross thing and loosen the nuggets diagnolly from each other. (I.E. 12 oclock nugget at the top then the 6 o clock nugget at the bottom. You know opposites). Next I lift the car up (for the tire I'm changing) fully up on the car lifter thingy. Next I fully loosen nuggets and then pull the cap off then the tire. I change the tire. Put the new tire on, then the hub cap.

Next I put the nuggets on LOOSELY with my fingers (not the cross) diagnolly opposites so that the tire gets on properly. (12 oclock nugget then the 6 oclock nugget, etc), then I lower the car so the tire is on the ground. Last I tighten all the nuggets. Done

did I do that right? (I know my dad said something about the order of loosening and stuff so that the car doesn't slide or fall of the car lifter thingy, I guess that's what I'm having issues with.

    thanks

Sorry again I don't know proper names but I know what stuff looks like. How do you properly change a tire?Break/Loosen the Nuts/Lug Nuts (Back off 2 turns) then jack up the Car {At the Area of the Flat Tire}, take the Lug Nuts off (Should be Just Loose Enough) by hand, With a Tire Iron/Pry Bar, work the tire off. If you are just trying to learn so of the Basics call around to some of the Community or Vocational Colleges because a lot of them offer a course for people that just want to know how to take care of their Cars if something happens while they, 2 or 3 Nights a Week. {Try It!}How do you properly change a tire?Well, shame on your father for yelling at you!! You got it pretty right. First I'd break the bolts loose before I lifted the car up with the JACK. If you break the bolts loose while the car is sitting on the gound, it will be much easier. So break those loose, but leave them on the tire -

THEN jack up your car - then pull off the bolts - and then put the new tire on - and then put the nuts back on - sort of tight.

Drop the car and screw down those nuts really tight.... And you got most of that right.

You're a genius - I can tell! How do you properly change a tire? Both these dudes are right, as are you. Just want to add that there are directions on the inside of your trunk lid or owners manual.

Ever had a new tire blow out? Should I worry about the others?

I mean really blow up. The whole side of my tire blew out while I was driving 75, out in the middle of nowhere in the desert. It was, around 110 degrees, so needless to say, it sucked.

Luckily I didn't lose control of the vehicle, and I know how to change a tire so it wasn't that big of a deal.

But my tires were new (within the last year) and fairly expensive, and the pressure was, as far as I know, within normal range.

Would you be worried about the other 3 tires having quality issues? Can't help but think about it as I'm driving curvy mountain roads at fast speeds. Had it happened in a different spot, with more traffic, or on a turn, I could be dead.Ever had a new tire blow out? Should I worry about the others? The two primary causes of a blowout like that are low inflation pressure and damage to the tire.

You say that the pressure was OK %26quot;as far as I know%26quot;. Do you REALLY know? Had you checked it within the past day or so as you should? Or was the last time it was checked when the tires were mounted? Tire pressure needs to be gauge checked every time you fuel up.

If you have hit a curb or pothole at any time, internal damage can happen that will result in catastrophic failure at some point in the future. Any time you have any kind of impact on a tire it should be dismounted and inspected by a qualified tire technician. You should also have all tires rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles and this needs to include an inspection of the interior of the tire to be done properly.

Since you have had one catastrophic failure you need to get the rest of the tires inspected by a qualified tech.

BTW, year-old tires are NOT new. Tires are considered used once you get about 500 to 1,000 miles on them.Ever had a new tire blow out? Should I worry about the others? Not sure what to think about the others but if I had to guess, I'd say you may have had one tire with a weak spot.

You might consider slowing down on those curvy mountain roads though... Just an idea ;-)

You didn't mention the money factor but you've probably got a 1 year warranty and the manufacturer should replace the tire for free.

Be careful, okay?Ever had a new tire blow out? Should I worry about the others?Have the car aliened to make sure that its not waring out tire prematurely. If your alignment checks out OK then I would be worry about the other 3.Ever had a new tire blow out? Should I worry about the others?sides of tires are more vulnerable to road hazards, curbs, and under inflation issues.

a previous incident may have triggered this especially if it is a passenger side tire.

However, I would still present it to a tire dealer and see if u can get some credit to a new one.

How do I know if my car is ok to drive on a road trip?

My car just hit 150k, and is a 97 honda accord. I want to drive about 800 miles round trip. I want to make sure there is nothing wrong - what things do I need to check up on? There are four jack points behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels for changing tires, but if you want to get under there you have to put the car on jack stands. So where do they go once you have one side up since I'm limited to the four points? I've been putting it on the little hook under there, beneath the engine, but that's just one point. Or maybe there's two hooks? My car's too low to drive up onto ramps. How do you jack up a Honda Civic 2002 to work underneath? My Honda CRV has the four points you talk about plus one point at back and one point at front that I can use a trolley floor jack and it will lift the front or back up balanced. The back one can sometimes be a way in and you can only get at it when you get down on hands and knees but front is usually under the bottom of rad or just ahead or behind it. My Nissan also had this as does my friend's Mazda so yours should as well. Check owner's manual for these points. I had a car that was too low as well for ramps , what I did was drive it up onto some wide wooden planks to raise it and then I could slide the ramps up to it without hitting the spoiler. good luck. How do you jack up a Honda Civic 2002 to work underneath?I'm talking about two planks of 2%26quot;x10%26quot; or 2%26quot;X12%26quot; pieces about 15%26quot;-18%26quot; long, Home Depot will cut these down to this length for you.

  • What would be the best way how to learn about how cars/motorcycles work and how to fix them?

I have no previous experience but it is a subject that seems to interest me. I would like to one day be able to possibly build or repair a car or motorcycle. How could I go about doing this starting with working on changing tires, oil changes, and moving on from there? What would be the best way how to learn about how cars/motorcycles work and how to fix them?If you're in high school or will be going there, take auto shop as your elective course. Then, get a job at a tune up or oil change place. You'll learn a lot about different types of cars and how they work. Eventually, you can go to a vocational school or even take on-line courses to learn more about it. You can also buy your own tools and start working on things like lawn mowers and generators at first, and work your way up to cars and motorcycles. What would be the best way how to learn about how cars/motorcycles work and how to fix them?start out with a good vocational school. some high schools have auto shop. give that a try. also go down to some guy who works on cars and motorcycles. ask them if you can help them out. handing wrenches cleaning up ect ect. for some basic training. What would be the best way how to learn about how cars/motorcycles work and how to fix them?By being helpful to those people who have the knowledge you seek.

Read up on the subject. Get any kind of practical experience you can, starting out with the basics like a discarded lawnmower.

Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?

Get along great with the guy, been together over a year but want more. Want a guy to express how they feel, want those three words. He doesn't want to say those words for fear something may change. Tired of waiting, is this a dumb reason to break up with someone that you love and care about or do you continue to be misserable and feel horrible about yourself like he doesnt love you?Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?I can understand if u would, but some guys like me won't say it until we our 100% percent sure and actually mean it and not just say it because u want us to. After a yr with a girl i would have said it but it takes some guys longerWould you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?I would!Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?talk to him about it! he wont know until you tell him..he doesnt read your mind..Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?love is a strong word, tell him how you feel and ask him if he could see himself with you for at least the next couple of years. If he says something stupid, leave him. He should know by now if he loves you or not.Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?You can't force a man to say something he doesn't mean. Tell him what you want, if you both don't agree why continue being miserable, as you put it? Save yourself the trouble. You obviously want different things. Don't be scared, tell him.Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?did you tell him?

    did you ask him?

try bothWould you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?GREAT reason to break up with someone. If he won't say I love you, it means he doesn't love you. Yes, things WILL change if he says it -- it would communicate real commitment. THAT'S why he won't say it. Run for the hills. You've already wasted enough time on this one. He's not the one. Just chalk it up and go forward.Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?Well don't wait around forever. You can't change a person. If he's not ready, be glad he respects you enough not to lie to you. If it starts to feel wrong, leave and move on. Lack of those words doesn't necessarily mean you are not loved, cared for or appreciated. People just have different comfort levels with using them.Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?I'm with Chloe!!Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?if you love him tell him and see if he says it back. if he does, then there you go but if not, then eventually you need to find out so when you're ready just ask him if he loves you...sometimes you have to give guys that little push...i did say little ok...you dont wanna push him away for good lolWould you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?You can't stay with someone that doesn't love you. My parents got divorced because my dad never told my mom he loved her. After awhile it takes it's toll on the other person. They need to hear and feel that they are loved. If he is not willing to take it that far than he is not serious about you. Move on and find someone else who will love you and say they love you for you. If your feeling miserable than it is definitely time to move on to better things.Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?breaking up with him wouldn't be necessary... just say straight up about your true feelings.......sometimes it takes a guy time to say those words nothing to worry about nabe he had gotten hurt in the past some how and so he is not willing to get hurt again so he hasn't said those things to u yet he could be worried if your going to hurt him someway....Would you breakup with someone because they never said I love you or expressed how they feel about you?Yes it is very dumb. Look does he cuddle with you? Do you every catch him looking at you sweetly when he thinks your not looking? Is he there for you when you need him? Emotionally and physically? Just because he may be afraid to say it does not mean that he doesn't. Try to understand from his point of you. If he is afraid that things are going to change that could mean that he is scared that they may change for the worse and he will loose you. I love you are words. Have you ever heard the statement actions speak louder than words? Before you get too bent out of shape ask yourself this are you willing to break up over what you want to hear and refuse to see? Some ppl love in other ways than telling you. They show you. Look at all aspects of your relationship all the good and all the bad does the good out weigh the bad? But remember ppl are diff. He may be telling you everyday that he loves you and you might not be seeing it. Either way talk to him about how you feel. Good luck

    Jacobsen Snowblower wheel removal?

How do I remove the wheels to change tires and inner tubes?

The pins came out fine but the wheels appear to be rusted to the axle. I applied penetrating oil but no use. Is the axle just round and held in place by the pins or is there a groove the wheel slots onto?. I have no manual, it is a very old machine but runs well.Jacobsen Snowblower wheel removal?I would try using a puller. Usually on these older machines the wheels were just held in by that pin, usually with a washer as well to avoid wearing into the wheel.

Changing tires on Honda Accord - Can't get jack out from trunk!?

I'm trying to change my tires on my 96 Honda Accord. (I know perfectly well how to change a tire...) However, the jack in my trunk is like mounted to the inside of my interior trunk. Is there a special trick to get it out?

I wish I could describe it better...

If I open my trunk the jack is on the right side poking out of the inner layer of my car.

No I didn't put it there, it's one of those new jacks and I think my dad put it in there some how.Changing tires on Honda Accord - Can't get jack out from trunk!?Try rotating the eye hole of the jack. It is probably spead open just enough to hold it in place to keep it from rattling around.Changing tires on Honda Accord - Can't get jack out from trunk!?Usually there is a bolt or a nut ran through the jack that you have to loosen or remove to get it out.Changing tires on Honda Accord - Can't get jack out from trunk!?What the last guy said. I own a 96' Accord as well, the jack is only clipped into place(passenger side in front of the brake light housing)I will not use a manufacturers supplied jack under any circumstances. They are only marginally safe at best, even for Honda. When on a trip,I carry a small floor jack(it fits behind the rear seat, under the shelf)When you do finally get your jack out, clean it and oil it,check the spring clips that hold it in place for rust.Your Dad means well I'm sure, ask him whats the deal.Check the owners manual in glove box.It is full of useful info as well.

Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?

I know this sounds absolutely absurd, but here's what happened: I made an appointment to get my Jeep inspected. I made a point to check things over myself before I went. The %26quot;check engine%26quot; light was definitely NOT on, and never had been before, in the four years that I've owned it.

I went to the inspection. My mechanic looked everything over, and said my tires needed to be replaced due to cracking and wear. Before I left, I asked %26quot;Is that definitely all I need for the sticker?%26quot; He asked his co-worker (who was checking things inside the vehicle) if the check engine light was on. The buddy yelled %26quot;Nope%26quot;. He said we wouldn't have to do an emissions test then, and to simply come back with my new tires for the sticker.

The same day I drove directly to Sears and bought four new tires. I had to wait for about an hour while they mounted and balanced them. That was all I was there for. I left with my new tires and just a couple miles down the road I noticed my %26quot;check engine%26quot; light was on. Surprised and confused, I pulled over and called Sears and told the sales guy who had helped me. He of course explained that changing tires wouldn't cause the check engine light to come on, as if I was a ditzy woman. I said I know that isn't logical, but thought the technician might have done SOMETHING, I don't know what, while working with my vehicle that could have possibly caused the light to come on.

He mumbled something about maybe it came on because the door was open too long, which made me wonder who the ditz really was, and then offered no explanation, saying it couldn't be anything they did and hung up.

I realize this sounds weird, but it's just too coincidental that the light would happen to come on five minutes after being in the technician's hands when it's NEVER been on before. And I have to go back for my re-inspection tomorrow and don't want him to see the light on and open a can of worms. I could barely afford the tires.

I'm sorry this was so long, but does anybody have any clue how this could have happened? Or how I can get the %26quot;check engine%26quot; light to go back out? There has to be an explanation for this, it's just too coincidental.

Thank you!Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?Take the Jeep back to Sears. Explain in no uncertain terms that the light was off when it was delivered for service and that you want it reset. Do not pay for this and if the person you are talking to even begins to back pedal immediately ask for a manager. Be polite but firm. If the light came on on the way home from the shop that is no coincidence. It very well could have been from the ABS system sometimes it is a fuel cap. But do not back down get it fixed. I have successfully went back to shops literally years after work was done improperly or parts that were sold to me were not on the vehicle, and had my money refunded or the repairs corrected. Your money and business is important don't let the seller act like they are doing you a favor. You are the customer you are the one paying.Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?If you google it there shoudl be a series of key turns or something simliar that will reset any error codes and turn the light off. However the smart thing to do is go to a mechanic you trust and ask them to read the codes off the computer. The light is on because your jeep is trying to tell you something is wrong. Listen to what it has to say.

Also big thumbs up on owning a jeep :)Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?Sometimes, even during normal servicing, faults appear afterwards that are purely coincidental.

However, it is just possible, if you have ABS on your vehicle, that a sensor was disturbed on the hubs. It might therefore simply be a case of a loose connection.

If you dont have ABS, or braking electronics, it might just be coincidence.Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?go to sears and tell them to reset the light they will do it for free . when they hook the scanner the scanner will tell them whats wrong. it will give them a code write it down ask them to reset the light check that gas cap is tight.Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?If you didn't notice it right away, then it's possible it came on when you were driving it and therefore it wouldn't have been on when you left the sears shop. I have an 86 cherokee and its an electrical nightmare. I don't even think my check engine light works. It could just be a short, or a very minor problem. A lot of people have daily drivers with the %26quot;check engine%26quot; light on. It's not a big deal, but you should get it inspected.Check Engine Light on after Tire Replacement?.?I truly think it was just a coincidence. You will never know until you get the codes pulled. If the codes are related to the suspension system then they must have accidentally triggered during the tire service.

  • How we measure tread depth of tires exactly?

today i was in canadian tire for service my car. examiner said that i have car tires with tread depth 4. what is mean by this number. i have to change tires now as he said. what is tread depth number for a new tire. can any body tell me what tread depth atleast for a tire if i bought a used tire. How we measure tread depth of tires exactly? It means that you have 4/32 of an inch left on your tire.if you take a penny and put Abe's head down into the grove of the tire and you can see the top of his head you need new tiresHow we measure tread depth of tires exactly? The examiner had a depth indicator.. We here in the states use the good old American Penney..You insert the Penney in the tread head first... if you can see the top edge of Lincoln's head you need new tires..How we measure tread depth of tires exactly?Buy a tread depth gauge. Minimum safe depth is 2/32 of an inch, or if you have a penny stick it in the groves between the treads with the top of Abe's head towards the tire, if you can see the space on the penny between the top of Abe's a head and the edge of the penny where it is touching the tire, you do not have enough tread left. How we measure tread depth of tires exactly?tread depth is measured by how many thousands of an inch deep it is. look at the tread, on about 4-6 diferent places around the tire there will be tread wear bars. if your tires are worn down the the depth bars (almost bald) then they need replaced. you can buy a depth gauge (very cheap) or use the picture on a penny. Hold it upside down, stick it in the tread, if you can see abe's forehead, you need tires. How we measure tread depth of tires exactly?well being in canada, i would guess that he meant 4milimeters and not 4/32ths of an inch. but its the same concept...new tires range from about 7mm on up to 20ish for off road tires. 4mm is quite a bit...i work at a tire shop and we dont recomend replacing tires till 2/32 of an inch..or actually about 2mm...that is, unless the customer is needing more traction for the snow. How we measure tread depth of tires exactly?Depending on wether he was reading metric or SAE 4 represents 4/32%26quot; , or 4 mm's. on your tire inbetween the %26quot;lugs%26quot; in the tread there are wear indicators wich represent 2/32 of tread remaining, by hiway traffic act this is when your tires are officially worn out (if they want to be sticky) at 4 your traction and handling is compromised and should concider shopping for new tires. With this being done at the time of a regular service your tires might not last till your next service so they are suggesting a recommended repair.

Continentals and other top shelf brands have a tick more.

Truck tires and/or SUV tires have varying depths depending upon their size. 18/32 isn't unusual for a big brand new 4X4 tire.

Tread bars generally become level with the tread at 3/32 of an inch.

I got my first tread depth gauge as a gift when I completed my training as a Claims Representative at the Auto Club, but when I misplaced it I purchased one at Pioneer Mercantile, a well-equipped auto parts store in Bakersfield, California for less than $3.

How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?

I was wondering, how to truck drivers change a flat? I saw an 18-wheeler blow out a tire last week and pull over, then I started thinking, how do they change it? They are so big and heavy, and I can't imagine a Jack could lift up the tralior or the truck.

My only guess is that the wheels themselves can be lifted up individually somehowHow do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire? Most of the axles have double wheels on each side. If one blows, there is enough strength in the other to get the truck to a shop. Drivers cannot change them themselves without a 80 tonne jack and a huge air gun.How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?Believe it or not, they call the tire man. And it is for that reason. They are heavy and big. My husband is a truck driver and there has been a few times that I was with him that a tire blew. Be careful not to be to close to the trucks when they do blow a tire. The shreds can bust your windshield real easy. Thats why most drivers don't like cars by their back axles. Its dangerous. How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire? They can lift one axle at a time then you can change the tire with the rim still bolted to the truck if it's the outside tire. Also if you have a flat on an out side tire on a set of duels you can simply drive onto a block of wood with the inside tire lifting the outside clear of the ground. How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?truck drivers normally call tire shops to come to us. If we are at our own shop, each axle lifts separately with a 5 or 10 ton hydrolic jack so it can be serviced much like your own car, just on a much larger scale. I am a tractor trailer driver as well as a tow truck driver. How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?i know that when i was in the air force and drove in those big trucks that we would change them ourselves (but i was also in vehicle maintenance so that was our job --- the other people in our group, if they had a flat, we had to stop and change it for them)

For the big rigs you're seeing, the drivers are not allowed to change the tires. The main reason is because they're split-rim wheels and are extremely dangerous when underinflated --- they can easily explode and kill anything in it's trajectory.

Plus, they're huge and heavy - easily weighing 500lbs when inflated, about 300lbs when completely flat (those rims are HEAVY!) so special equipment is needed that is not on the trucks (which is on purpose to an impatient driver does not simply do it himself and get all killed and stuff).

SO - when an 18-wheeler has a flat, they call their roadside assistance (i used to work for Ryder roadside assistance dispatch) which dispatches a service truck to go to them to change it or tow it to the nearest service station to repair/replace the wheel.

and yes, a jack (a very heavy-duty one) can lift the truck and/or trailer enough to do it, it's just too dangerous to do on the side of the road like you would a passenger vehicle. How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?To lift one tire isn't such a problem for them as long as they have a strong enough jack(3000-4000 lbs.). The trick about it is that there is no tool to pull the old tire off the rim. They have to use pry bars and litteraly hammer the tire off and the new one on. Then they have to make the rim seal to the tire bead. Most guys simply use a minor explosion like spraying alot of ether in the tire and setting it aflame. then the tire takes its form and is then aired up.How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?I assume you are talking about changing a spare?

I am not familiar with split rims. However, I have changed many of the others by myself using a 20 ton bottle jack to lift it and a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar and socket. Sometimes I would have to heat the nuts/studs with a torch in order to break them loose and always had to use a 4 or 5 foot long %26quot;cheater bar%26quot; as an extension on the handle for more leverage. I bet I looked a bit foolish jumping up and down on the pipe. Hehe. Anyway, itt is not a wise practice to pick them up by yourself to place them back on... but if you do it right (face away and lift it behind you) you will be ok.How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?We call our company and they call a road service company to come out and fix a flat for us. It can take hours and hours from the time of the call to when they actually get there...How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?My man works on semi trailers and the send a truck out to take care of the broken down trucker! How do Truck Drivers Change a flat tire?Like several said, most call the tire guy: a mounted spare is usually too heavy to justify lugging it around all the time -- especially when you consider it would be pretty useless without a jack strong enough to lift one side of the heaviest-laden axle.

For almost all vehicles requiring either a %26quot;Class A%26quot; or a %26quot;Class B%26quot; CDL, compressed air isn't a problem: they've got air brakes and most vehicles in service have a %26quot;quick connect%26quot; for using compressed air remotely (like airhose %26amp; tool).

Most 18-wheelers have a GVWR of 80k lbs and almost never have more than 16k lbs per axle (ordinarily and by law, the load on any single axle cannot exceed 20k lbs).

Usually, the bridge formula governs OTR axle loadings, except some places impose lower limits -- and then there's always the possibility of a permitted overload.

While the actual force required to lift one side of such an axle laded to the legal maximum might be only 10k lbs, most service jacks are rated for at least 12t -- 24,000 lbs -- (but not much more).

The Michelin XZA3 11R-22.5 weighs 119 lbs apiece; the 11R-24.5 weighs 129 lbs apiece -- but you can probably find modern %26quot;normal size%26quot; (not wide-base) tires up to maybe 150 pounds. That's JUST the tire.

A typical 22.5 x 7.5 aluminum wheel weighs 55 lbs; a typical 24.5 x 8.25 steel wheel weighs 86 lbs. I've heard of some roadside service trucks having dollies that let them remove duals without separating them -- but if you're doing it solo, forget it.

If you've got an old spoke-style wheel, split rims and have to deal with inner tubes and flaps (and in some cases, boots), you're looking at more weight and more junk to have to deal with.

I can't count the number of 10.00-20 tires I've changed using a bottle jack and some boards and a pull-handle and socket -- or how many studs I've wrung off or handles I've broken -- or how many mounted tires I've %26quot;broken down,%26quot; swapped-out and built-up: it must be in the high hundreds -- and I didn't do it all that long.

For a white dude, I was pretty danged quick with a hammer (rim mallet), ring tool (when applicable) and spoons (swan-necked bead tools) -- but I got backlogged one day and had to call the tire guy, and he showed me a whole new world of quick!

That's when he became %26quot;my tire guy:%26quot; the only tires I changed after that were the ones I needed changed while he was on another job (and I couldn't wait) or when he was too tired to come out -- he worked as many hours a day as I did, and I wasn't gonna deny him much-needed and well-deserved rest.

Oh -- and you're right about SOME trucks having 1 or more retractable axles; however, that's not an ordinary thing -- and even when a truck has 1 or more retractable axles, it still has axles that aren't retractable.

I've never heard of more than 3 retractable axles on 1 truck; regardless, they were all %26quot;spare axles%26quot; designed to distribute the load for axle-loading compliance: they retracted to keep the tires from wearing out as quickly as they otherwise would.

Freight is a cutthroat business (and usually the victim discovers he was holding the knife used to injure him when the assault occurred -- if you know what I mean).

Oh -- and %26quot;who's to blame%26quot; said it right about lifting the mounted tires. :)

PS: A wide-base tire (also known as a %26quot;Super Single%26quot;) is sometimes used to replace a pair of %26quot;ordinary size%26quot; tires. These, and %26quot;high-flotation%26quot; tires, are larger than %26quot;ordinary size%26quot; tires -- and they use correspondingly larger wheels.

Although an individual high-flotation or wide-base tire is heavier than its common counterpart, and though its associated wheel is heavier than the ordinary, smaller unit, weight savings are realized when wide-base tires are used to replace pairs of %26quot;ordinary size%26quot; tires.

There are disadvantages to wide-base tire usage, but that's well beyond the scope of your question.

No tire that may legally be used on a public roadway is able to hold anywhere close to 200 pounds of air! The internal volume of a typical truck tire is significantly less than 7.5 cubic feet; the air in a properly-inflated tire is compressed to about 90-120 psig.

Rounding WAY up, that's a max of 9.5 atmospheres of absolute pressure. Air weighs roughly 0.00256 lbs per cubic foot at 60 degrees Fahrenheit -- 9.5 times which would be 0.02432 lbs per cubic foot at 60 degrees Fahrenheit for the air in the tire.

However, if it's very cold, we'll have to put extra air in to keep the pressure up. Let's drop the temperature to -140 degrees Fahrenheit: I don't know many people operating trucks in that temperature, but what the heck.

We have to use the Rankine scale to get the ratios, since we're working in Fahrenheit. The short answer is we have to put 62.7 percent more air in the tire to maintain the same pressure (actually a very slight increase).

Doing the math, that gives us 1.627 x 0.02432 = 0.03956864 lbs per cubic foot at -140 degrees Fahrenheit for the air in the tire. Multiply that by a very generous 7.5 cubic feet and you have a %26quot;maximum thoretically possible%26quot; weight of less than 0.300 pounds per tire for %26quot;normal%26quot; (11R22.5, 11R24.5) tires.

Even if you tripled that to allow for the most outrageous outsize possible on a wide base tire, you're looking at less than 9/10 of a pound of air per tire, even at -140F and 120 psig!

However, what I would do is take out the spare tire, lug wrench, and jack. Then I would lean them up alongside the flat tire and when I saw a car coming would stand beside all of it and look helpless. In over 50 yrs. of driving I have never had to change a flat tire but twice! I do know how, but it is just so much easier waiting for a nice person to stop and %26quot;help%26quot; me - it makes their day and it makes mine and I stay clean. Needless to say I have only owned a vehicle with the under the car spare!! Good luck!

P.S. The longest I've had to wait was 15 min. once - usually someone stops within 10 min. - even when one flat tire was 15 miles from the nearest occupied house!!!Please HELP. how to change my car tire?Get out your owners manual it will show you step by stepPlease HELP. how to change my car tire?if you have a tir iron you can lifyt the car up and then use the star jack to loose up the nuts that's holding you spare tire hostage.
