How hard is it to change motorcycle street tires?

I need to change both tire and I'm thinking about doing this myself because I've heard bringing it to a shop isn't cheap. How hard is it to change motorcycle street tires?for the front wheel, you have to disconect, and remove the brakes, somewtimes speed sensor, sometimes abd is equipped then remove the axle so the wheel falls out. You have to do it while the forks are supported off the ground somehow, if you have a centerstand, it helps a lot, or you need some kind of jack. Many bikes have multi piston calipers in the front,...take note of that, have extra brake fluid, and dont touch the brake lever!

With the wheel off, you can change the tire.

For the rear wheel, if your lucky enough to have shaft drive, it is simple, and similar to the front wheel. If you have chain drive, you need to remove the chain first, then the brakes, then the axle rod again. How hard is it to change motorcycle street tires?Any more, most cast wheels are safety rims, meaning they have small ridges that keep the tire bead in place should it go flat. With the proper tools like a heavy bead breaker tool and sledge hammer, you can beak the tire down. Without it, chances are you'll never be able to break it down. Now if it's a simple spoked wheel, most don't have the ridges and often come off the rim by simply letting the air out.

Cast rims are tough, but it's a good idea to place a folded up rag, heavy piece or leather or a piece of rubber heater hose split lengthwise over the rim before prying the tire off with tire irons to keep from damaging the rim.

Incidently, the spray silicone cleaner-polish you use on dashboards is a great lubricant for helping to get the tire off and onto the rim.How hard is it to change motorcycle street tires?Although it is basically like changing a bicycle tyre it is harder work, you can make various tools to help, especially a support, makeshift bead breaker and a jig to balance. You might want to get rim protectors, it is very easy to slip.

It need not be expensive to get the tyres changed, if you remove them from the bike it will save money. A place near me will do it for free if you buy the tyres through them and take the wheels off.How hard is it to change motorcycle street tires? If you have not the means to balance and properly inflate your tubless tires (I just assume you have tubless), take the rims off, and bring them in to save money.

If you are bent on doing it yourself, check out some vids on youtube or Dan's m/c repair site:
